How To Not To Be A But-Head In Your Cold Emails

Are you a but-head?

Here's what I mean...

A LOT of emails have a line that looks something like:

"I know you're crazy busy, but I was hoping we could get 15 minutes."

"You probably have a lot on your plate to start the new year, but I would love to get some time on your calendar."

"I'm sure with the holidays you're focused on closing out the year, but I was hoping we could still meet for 30 minutes."

etc.

In these examples, what comes after the comma negates what came before the comma.

It essentially says, "I know you're busy, but my stuff is more important so meet with me anyway."

You're being a but-head.

Instead, justify why a meeting/response makes even more sense.

Put a period after that first half instead of a comma to resist the urge to "but" them, then write a new sentence with your reason.

For example:

"I know you're probably crazy busy. This seems like it aligns with your company's goals."

"You probably have a lot on your plate to start the new year. Looks like this is good timing with your new brand rollout."

"I'm sure with the holidays you're focused on closing out the year. In the spirit of the season of giving, can you carve out a minute to consider this?"

Don't be a but-head.
